If you are unfamiliar with Ravensbourne, it is a specialist design university situated in the Greenwich Peninsula right next to the O2 Arena. Since I am a prospective student, I was kindly sent an invitation to their private view which was today and ran from 4pm to 10pm.
The show ran throughout the entire building and included work from FE and undergraduate students. The university has an open plan interior and this made moving through the nine floors of the show quite easy. I started at on the ground floor at the Digital Film Production area and then took the lift up to the 9th floor and worked my way downwards.
Seeing work across all the courses available at Ravensbourne was definitely a great sight to see. There are over 500 graduates this year and whilst I walking around, I could really see the talent every student had and the incredible amount of effort they put into their work. I looked through multiple portfolios and it was a good thing that I did because I now have a better idea of what to expect for my next year of education. Like how you may feel inspired after going to a museum or gallery, I felt the same way here and am excited to spend the rest of my summer creating more art and improving upon myself.
Overall, I really think that the show was very well put together and worth going to if you happen to be in the area. Tomorrow is the last day of the show and it will be open to the public from 10am to 10pm. You do have to book tickets in advance on the Eventbrite page but admission is free. Alternatively, you can also tune into the live broadcast on the Degree Show website.
Although I have talked about Ravensbourne's show in this post, there are degree shows happening all across the UK and if you're feeling a little tired of going to the same galleries over and over, I'd recommend you attend a couple of shows and get a real taste of what the new batch of graduates can offer to the creative industry.
Until my next one,
Chelli
